ObjectivesOver the past decades, it is more and more acknowledged that including uncertainty in numerical analysis embodies a very useful and valuable application of the increasing capabilities of modern (high-performance) computer facilities, both in science and in industry. Non-deterministic methodologies enable the numerical simulation of uncertain or variable processes, providing information on ranges of possible behavior rather than unique predictions. This information can only increase the trustworthiness of the underlying analysis, and proves to be of great value in the virtual prototyping process that is becoming a standard in current design engineering practice. The objective of the USD conference series is to gather scientists and engineers that are active in the field of uncertainty modelling in structural dynamics. The conference intends to create an open discussion forum on current developments and practices in this research area. The conference topics range over analysis techniques, implementation strategies and applications of non-deterministic numerical methods in structural dynamics, covering probabilistic as well as non-probabilistic approaches. This USD conference will be organised in conjunction with ISMA2010 from 20 till 22 September 2010 in Leuven. Registration is managed by the ISMA staff. A single registration will grant access to both ISMA as well as to the USD conference. Tentative conference programmeThe combined conference programme will include two keynote lectures and contributed papers in specialised areas of noise and vibration engineering and structural dynamics. The first keynote lecture "Silent trains for the
future, an industrial approach for low noise
design" will be given by Mrs. Siv
Leth, Center of Competence Acoustics and Vibration,
Bombardier Transportation, Sweden. The second keynote
lecture "Signal Decomposition for Symptom Enhancement
: A journey from Fourier analysis through time/frequency analysis
to blind source separation" will be given
by Prof. Bob Randall, School of Mechanical
and Manufacturing Engineering, University of New South Wales,
Australia. Schedule
Manuscript preparation instructionsInformation concerning manuscript preparation can be found on the following page: Manuscript preparation instructions Online paper submission has been closed. For questions regarding the papers or the proceedings please contact papers(@)isma-isaac.be. Technical exhibitionParallel to the conferences, an exhibition of related equipment (FFT-analysers, data acquisition systems, transducers, software packages, etc.) will be organised, to give the conference attendants the chance to face new products. The exhibition will take place in the entrance hall of the 'college De Valk', where the conference will be held. It will be opened on: Monday 20 September (13h-18.25h), on Tuesday 21 September (8.50h-18.35h) and on Wednesday 22 September (8.50h-13h). Click here for a list of exhibitors.
RegistrationA single registration will grant access to both the ISMA and the USD conference and includes full conference proceedings, refreshments and conference reception:
If you present one or more papers, please make sure you know the
paper-ID('s). You can find them in the list of accepted
papers.
Conference venueThe conference will be held on the city campus of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, located in the old centre of Leuven. The Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, founded in 1425, is one of the oldest and most famous universities of the European continent. The historic and artistic past is present everywhere in this charming city which is the true capital of Brabant. The town hall, the beguinage, the numerous churches, monasteries, convents and university colleges are evidence of a glorious past and lend the town a medieval character. Leuven is located in the centre of Belgium only 30km from Brussels and 20km from Brussels National Airport. For more information please visit the location website.
AccomodationA limited number of rooms is available at the following hotels. Please arrange hotel reservations yourself before 1 August 2010.
