On this webpage you will find some practical information regarding
the conference. We ask you to read this information carefully,
especially the items related to the conference location. The
opening session and technical sessions are organised on different
sites, and we don't want you to get lost in Leuven!

The conference dinner will be organised on Tuesday 21 September at
19h30 in the Faculty Club, Groot Begijnhof 14 in Leuven.
Participation is not included in the conference fee and advance
booking is required. Dinner is fully
booked!

The plenary opening session will be held in Auditorium Pieter De Somer. The eight parallel
technical sessions and the plenary poster sessions will be held in
the new building of College De Valk. The technical exhibition will
be organised in the foyer.

| Exhibition The exhibition is organised in the foyer of the new building of College "De Valk". The exhibition will be officially opened after the opening session on Monday 20 September at 13.00. We would like to emphasise that it is forbidden to park around the College De Valk. The nearest parking (not free) is the Ladeuze parking.

Name badge
All registrants for ISMA2010-USD2010, exhibitors, deskstaff and technical staff members will receive a badge. Everybody is asked to wear this badge at all sessions and social events.
Coffee break and lunch
Mid-morning and afternoon coffee will be served in the exhibition area.
Lunch is not included in the registration fee. However a large number of restaurants are located in the surroundings of the conference site within walking distance.
People wishing to sample the wide variety of cuisines available have a large number of choices in Leuven and the surroundings. Belgium is world famous for its beers, numbering more than five hundred, and today Leuven is still proud to be known as the beer capital of Belgium.
Conference Social Event
On Monday evening, 20 September at 19.00, a reception will be organised in the famous fourteenth century University Hall (Jubuleumzaal). The University Hall is located near to the conference venue (Naamsestraat 22, 3001 Leuven). All conference participants are invited to attend this event which is sponsored by LMS International and InBev. Don't miss this opportunity to taste some of the typical Belgian specialities.
Conference Banquet
The banquet will be organised in the Faculty Club (Groot Begijnhof 14 in Leuven, tel: +32 16 329500) on Tuesday evening 21 September, at 19.30. Only participants who have registered for the banquet can participate (dinner is fully booked).
Weather
September is late summer in Belgium, with the daily temperatures ranging from 15°C to 20°C, although occasionally the maximum may reach 25°C. On average, the weather is sunny with a few days of rain during the month. An umbrella and a light raincoat are advisable.
Electricity
The electric power is 220 V AC, 50Hz.
Opening hours banks and stores
Banks are generally open from 9.00 till 15.30, department stores from 9.30 till 18.00, while most other shops stay open from 9.00 till 18.00. Mid-day, most shops generally remain open, although you may find a few closed between 12.00 till 14.00. On Fridays, supermarkets and department stores are generally open until 20.00.
Money changing after banking hours is possible at the airport.
Credit cards
Shops and restaurants usually accept major international credit cards such as EuroCard-MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Diners Club, with a preference to EuroCard-MasterCard and Visa.
Car rental
If you wish to rent a car, it is often advantageous to do so from your own country, often in conjunction with the purchase of your airline ticket. Local car rental companies are: AVIS, Budget, Car Rental, Hertz, Europcar.

Rules of the road
In Belgium, the speed limit on freeways and divided four-lane highways is 120 km/h. On most other roads, it is 70 km/h, but in towns and cities, you are restricted to 50 km/h. Wearing seat and shoulder belts is mandatory for both the driver and passengers. In parts of most towns and cities, you have to pay for parking.
How to reach Leuven and the conference venue
Due to road works the entrance to the conference venue "College De Valk" (indicated below by "B") at the Tiensestraat and the hotels in the Tiensestraat are not easily accessible by car, for pedestrians there is no problem. Deviation signs ("OMLEIDING" in Dutch) show how to get to the Tiensestraat. The map below shows the deviation when you come from the railway station of Leuven (indicated by "A").

- Airports
The nearest airport is Brussels International Airport. There is also an airport in Charleroi (also known as Brussels South) which has cheaper flights (e.g. Ryanair), however Leuven is most easily reached from Brussels International Airport.
- Brussels international airport (Zaventem)
- Entering the arrival hall, go to your right. You will find escalators and elevators going to LEVEL -1. Level -1 is the train station of the airport.
- There are two trains an hour leaving from the airport to Leuven (NOT Louvain-La-Neuve!) . On both trains Leuven is the first stop after 14 to 16 minutes of riding.
- At the train station in Leuven you can walk, take a bus or a taxi to the hotel, depending where your hotel is.
- By taxi: a taxi takes about 25 minutes from Brussels Airport to Leuven. A single journey will cost about 70 euro. Always take a taxi at the official taxi stand.

- There is no train station at the airport (Brussels South railway station is in Brussels and not at Charleroi!)
- There are buses from the airport to the railway station (bus line A). You can purchase a ticket at the bus stop (door n°2) to Charleroi South railway station.
- In Charleroi South Railway Station you can buy a ticket to Leuven (NOT Louvain-La-Neuve!). The travelling time will be between 80 and 95 minutes.

- Brussels international airport (Zaventem)
- By train
By train Leuven (NOT Louvain-La-Neuve!) is only 20 minutes from Brussels, 40 minutes from Antwerp, 50 minutes from Liège, 90 minutes from the Belgian coast and at 2 to 3 hours from cities like Düsseldorf, Paris, Amsterdam, Calais,… Travelers from France and England can easily take the Thalys, the Eurostar or TGV. The TGV also comes in from the Netherlands and Germany.
Most international trains make a stop in Brussels South railway station (=“Bruxelles-Midi”,“Brussel-Zuid”) . From this station (as from every main station in Brussels) it is easy to catch a train to Leuven. A train ticket from Brussels to Leuven will cost you between 3 and 6€. There are at least two trains an hour to Leuven. The ride to Leuven from Brussels railway stations will take you about 30 minutes.
The train station of Leuven is conveniently situated at the edge of the city centre.The conference venue is in the centre of the city and is situated at an acceptable walking distance from the railway station. You can also take a bus (expl. nr. 2) to get to the conference venue. Get off at Fochplein (= end of Bondgenotenlaan). Then take Tiensestraat for about 300m; the conference is indicated (large porch) on your left (opposite to Hotel Mercure Leuven Center).

Take the E40 motorway, then the E314 motorway (follow “Leuven Hasselt Genk”).
Take the exit “Leuven”. Continue and turn right just before the 4th traffic light. Do not go under the bridge and be aware of pedestrians and cyclists! Continue. Enter the city via “Naamse Poort” (=first traffic light, Delhaize supermarket and Total petrol station at your right side), by turning left. Continue. Aula De Somer is at Deberiotstraat (= 5th street on your right). Continue for 100m. Please note that there is very few parking in this street. We advise you to park your
car at Ladeuze parking and walk to Aula De Somer.
- To get to College De Valk=conference venue (from 20
September p.m. to 22 September)
Take the E40 motorway, then the E314 motorway (follow “Leuven Hasselt Genk”). Take the exit “Leuven”. Continue and turn right just before the 4th traffic light. Do not go under the bridge and be aware of pedestrians and cyclists! (GB and Delhaize supermarkets are at your right hand side). Continue. Enter the city centre via the “Tiensepoort” (=third traffic light), by turning left. (Parking Ladeuze is already indicated) Continue. The conference venue (=Rechtsfaculteit-De Valk) is at 500m on your left.

It is very hard to find a free parking spot in the City centre of Leuven (The maximum length of stay is usually limited to a maximum of 2 hours). Most of the streets in the city centre of Leuven have parking meters and the police and “stadswacht” regularly patrol the streets in order to give out fines to illegally parked cars.
Visitors are therefore advised to park their cars in one of the following:
